About

For this project, I had to design a cute companion that would help the user with a task or support their well-being. With the Tamagotchi as an inspiration reference category for this artifact, the product will emphasize the delightful quality of cuteness.

When creating my cooking companion Sous, I came up a question:

How can I make cooking more fun in order to relieve the stress of decision making?

Ideation:

As a busy, full-time college student, thinking about my next meal is not always fun to do. Having to decide what I’m going to cook stacked on top of thinking about what ingredients I need or how long it will take is sometimes stressful, especially when I’m busy with school work. My idea for Sous, was that it would help with time and organization management, as well as decision making. I imagined a cute little chef figure would sit on the kitchen counter and have a selection of recipe cards within.

1st Iteration

With my first idea of having Sous be a container that held the recipe cards inside, I used clay to form the figure. In an ideal world, I would have this product be 3D printed or have a more skilled ceramicist execute the project.

I also started working on the cards and the illustration style they’d be in. I wanted it to look fun!

2nd Iteration

After some feedback, I wanted to make improvements to Sous by creating a practical product. The previous iteration was quite large so I opted for a recipe card holder that was smaller and slimmer to combat that issue.

This way, Sous would fit into its packaging better as well!
